Iggesund encourages designers to improve product packaging
Sunday, March 22, 2015Description :
Iggesund Paperboard, the leading producer of high-quality virgin fiberboard for the graphic sector and the high-end packaging industry, is pleased to announce a new collaboration with crowdSPRING, a creative crowdsourcing company, to encourage designers from around the world to Improve existing consumer packaging.
"Every day we are bombarded with examples of packaging that could be improved by a better choice of materials or a more appropriate design," says Staffan Sjöberg, head of the crowdsourcing project at Iggesund Paperboard. Today, we offer designers from around the world the opportunity to share their ideas on how to replace glass, plastic or metal packaging with cardboard-based solutions. "
He emphasizes that Iggesund is not looking for inexpensive ideas that can be applied to commercial use. Instead, the objective is to get an overview of how international designers think they can move the packaging sector towards a more sustainable direction.
"We will not claim any commercial rights over ideas," says Staffan Sjöberg. All we are interested in is getting an overview of how designers think they can improve consumer packaging that they see daily in stores. We want to publish these ideas and possibly reproduce some of them. "
For crowdSPRING, this collaboration with Iggesund Paperboard is an original project. In general, buyers publish an announcement about their creative projects, they set their own price and they wait for the creatives to submit their ideas. Finally, the buyer chooses the project he prefers and the rights to graphic design, web or industrial design or professional writing belong to him. The crowdSPRING model offers buyers upstream choices, concrete concepts from which to choose, rather than offers or proposals.
"It's a unique project that fits our commitment to integrity while fostering creativity with designers from around the world," said Mike Samson, co-founder of crowdSPRING. We are convinced that the association of sustainable development with innovative thinking will seduce a large number of designers among the thousands of designers who make up the credential community of crowdSPRING. "
Iggesund Paperboard is a subsidiary of the Swedish forestry group Holmen, one of the world's 100 most sustainable development companies according to the UN Global Compact index. The company offers two product lines, Invercote and Incada, both of which rank among the quality leaders in their segment. Since 2010, Iggesund has invested 3.3 billion SEK (346 million euros) in improving energy efficiency and reducing fossil carbon dioxide emissions from its plants. Thanks to these investments, the two plants are virtually autonomous in electricity.
Iggesund and the Holmen group report their fossil carbon dioxide emissions to the International Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and are part of List A of the project, which lists some 200 companies worldwide for their work against climate change. The environmental data of both companies are incorporated into their annual reports, which are produced in accordance with the highest degree of accountability for the Sustainable Development of the Global Reporting Initiative.
